WAC Saturday

November 14, 2009

First, let me start with a “Refraction Retraction” as it appears that I either misread the WACSports.com or just lost my mind as I screwed up 2 different game picks yesterday. LAtech plays Texas Pan American today not yesterday so I jumped the gun a bit there and Boise played Loyla Maramount last night not Montana. I’m still giving myself credit for the Boise pick since LMU is not as good as Montana should be.

Before we get to the picks for Saturdays games let’s go through the good and the bad yesterday in something I’m calling EPIC Win/EPIC Fail.

EPIC Win: Idaho Vandals. The Vandal guards did some serious damage. Hopson finished with 16 points, Steffan Johnson finished with 19 and back up guard Jeff Ledbetter added another 16 in just 14 minutes to lead the Vandals in the Red Line Upset over Utah 94-87. Check out Vandal Nation for more info.

EPIC Fail: Weber State’s will call pickup. You’d think if you had a thousand tickets at will call and a line of a couple hundred people 20 mintues before tip you might want to open up a 2nd window.

EPIC Win: Brian Green’s free throw shooting. A lot of Aggies (myself included) were worried about who would be the “closer” for the Aggies without Gary Wilkinson’s clutch FT shooting down the stretch. Brian Green did his best to take that roll last night hitting 4 pressure free throws in the last-minute to seal the deal in the Aggie win.

EPIC Fail: Tai Wesley’s missed dunk. Tai if you’re reading this, know that we love you but next time 2 hands for safety!

EPIC Win: The Spectrum on Wheels (SOW) represented strong in Ogden. Not much more needs to be said

EPIC Fail: New Mexico State. The southern Aggies got beat down by St. Mary’s 100-68 in what could have been a huge win for the WAC.

EPIC Win: The rest of the WAC took care of business. Boise beating LMU by 3 and Fresno beating San Fransisco State by 6 didn’t earn any style points, but a win is always nice. Hawaii also beat Southern Utah 65-48.

EPIC Win: My game picks. A perfect 6-0 last night. Even hitting the margin of victory for Boise and Idaho dead on (even if I thought Boise was playing someone else). Consider this an open invite to any of the other WAC bloggers reading this to challenge my WAC picks. We can even put some sort of “friendly wager” on it to be payable at the WAC tourney

Now for the WAC picks on Saturday

LATech at Texas Pan American- I accidently picked this one yesterday. I’ll stick with the Bulldogs by 20

Montana State at Nevada- Nevada is the better team and then Montana State suspended its starting PG and SG. Wolfpack should win easily. Pick: Nevada by 17

Boise State at Montana- Is there some sort of WAC-Big Sky challenge going on that I wasn’t made aware of? USU beat Big Sky favorite Weber State last night. Nevada is playing a middle of the pack Montana State today and Boise is playing Montana who was also picked near the top of the Big Sky conference. As previously noted Boise snuck by LMU last night by 3, meanwhile Montana beat North Dakota by 24.  Boise needs to play a lot better to beat the Grizzlies at home. I’m thinking its a close one and the edge goes to the home team. Pick: Montana by 4

  1. Boise is in Montana playing a tournament. They aren’t at home in taco bell and that’s why they are up vs Montana. Dumbass. You’d think you’d know more about college basketball, but I guess staring your own little newsletter doesn’t necessary mean you know anything or can be a credible source. Good pick on the Fresno game by the way.

  2. Thanks for your comment. Your opinion is appreciated

  3. Seriously – the WSU will call was a J-O-K-E. We got there at 7:05 and even elbowing our way into the front of the line we still didn’t see the tip off. Get a clue wsu!
